The American Olympic and Paralympic Committee has opted to appeal the shocking decision put forward by the IOC regarding Jordan Chiles.
The athlete’s bronze medal was stripped after she stepped on the podium for the floor competition in Paris.
During the early hours of Sunday, the IOC confirmed that it was going to re-award Chiles’ bronze medal to the gymnast from Romania Ana Barbosa after the sport’s highest court opted to void the on-floor appeal made by Chiles’ coach.
Just a few hours later, the USOPC came up with a new statement and expressed a new belief that Chiles rightfully earned that medal.
There were a lot of critical errors made along the way including the initial scoring by the FIG that must be addressed.
‘There were some huge errors made at the start by FIG and the second error was during the CAS appeal process. There was a lack of time provided to effectively take this decision on’- they mentioned.
Due to this result, the US says they were not represented appropriately or were provided the right opportunity to present the case most comprehensively.
US Olympic chiefs claim they will be standing by the olympian’s side and feel strongly that she should not be stripped of an honor that she earned.
