The Afghan infant whose pictures went viral after being passed over a fence at Kabul’s airport in an attempt to be rescued has finally managed to be reunited with his loved ones.
Little Sohail was handed over to a US soldier in a desperate attempt to be rescued in the chaos that took place at Kabul’s airport during the US-led evacuation efforts.
The little child was safely handed to his loved ones on Saturday in Kabul amid a very emotional moment.
Sohail Ahmadi was reportedly two months old in age during the time he went missing on the 19th of August as so many individuals tried to leave war-torn Afghanistan after it fell in the hands of the Taliban.
Right after the exclusive story was published on REUTERS in the month of November, alongside his images, the baby was soon located in the city by a taxi driver who reportedly found the child in the airport and as a result, opted to take full responsibility for his care, promising to raise him as one of his own.
During this time, attempts were made by plenty of authorities to locate his real parents, and today, the glad tidings were received by his relatives after he was reportedly handed over to them.
But the rescue mission did not come easy. Local media outlets claim that it took nearly seven weeks of pleas as well as negotiations and even a brief detention period by the police to make the driver hand over the child back to his blood relatives.
The baby was first given to his jubilant grandfather who couldn’t believe the miracle that his grandchild was not only alive but safely returned to him after so long.
Now, the child’s relatives are on another mission to reunite the child with his parents who were evacuated to the US.
