Shocking reports have confirmed that the FAA has confirmed that helicopters will no longer be allowed to fly near Washington DC’s airport.
This is the same route that resulted in a major collision between an American Black Hawk helicopter and a commercial plane.
That resulted in the death of 67 people and led to a major investigation by the FAA which says that it’s now no longer considered legal or safe to fly in the red zone.
The move comes just days after the investigators looked into the cause of the crash and recommended a ban on some flights, saying a string of near misses in recent times showed how the current setup poses an intolerable risk.
The FAA says that it is in control of the nation’s airspace and oversees aviation safety, has come under serious criticism and scrutiny after the NTS said that there was an alarming number of near-miss incidents in the congested skies around the Ronald Reagan National Airport.
The closure of that route for helicopters means there will be permanent restrictions in place so all but a very few exceptions including presidential flights will be under great scrutiny to ensure everyone’s safety at all times.
