Hordes of people are flocking to see Angela the bear that was accused of being a human in costume thanks to her very-human-like features.

Angela is a sun bear from China that became a global sensation after Hangzhou Zoo visitors shared videos and pictures of the mammal on social media.

In photos, the bear is often seen standing on its hind legs and waving to the visitors like a human would. Since it is also similar to humans in size, many people have called out the zoo and accused the bear of being a human in costume.

Hangzhou Zoo was since forced to speak out to dismiss claims that Angela is anything but a bear.

“When it comes to bears, the first thing that comes to mind is a huge figure and astonishing power. But not all bears are behemoths and danger personified,” a spokesperson for the zoo said.

“If you get someone to wear such thick fur in this summer heat, they won’t last more than a few minutes before they need to lie down. We are a government-operated zoo. There will never be situations like that.”

While several experts have since also spoken out and confirmed that Angela indeed is a bear that happens to look a lot like a human, many social media users remain convinced we’re looking at a human in a costume.

“That’s a human, period. Look at its thin arms and legs and the way it stands!” someone wrote.

“It is a human in disguise it even waves and walks like a person,” another argued.

To see Angela with their own eyes, plenty of tourists are now planning their trips to the zoo simply to see the astonishing sun bear with their own eyes.

“We traveled overnight last night to get here,” one visitor told the local media.

Another said: “After seeing this bear standing up on the internet, I wanted to see how it looks in real life, so I came here.”
