A mother from the Gold Coast is being dubbed as a monster for opting to remove her baby son’s birthmark.
Trolls accused the parent of being highly insensitive and putting her own needs and wants before the health and safety of her child. But the mother says it’s not what they think and she was only trying to help her son.
The news has gone viral online with many people calling the mother out for opting for laser as the medium of choice for removing the port wine stain.
33-year-old Brooke Atkins who is from the Gold Coast claims that she did what she thought was good for her baby. She did not wish for the child to grow up and be bullied all of his life.
Little Kingsley was born with a giant birthmark that covered half of his face. And the mother explained how everyone was always so concerned about that and what others would say and think about it.
Her son was diagnosed with glaucoma and Sturge-Weber Syndrome. And both of these conditions had the new mother shocked. She did not know what to make of it and started to research more on it.
“I did it so it would not affect my little one’s health. I took the advice of so many people on whether or not I should go ahead with the decision. Only after receiving approval from medical experts did I choose to go ahead with the choice”- the mother elaborated.
Science says that while the birthmark called port wine stain is harmless, it can be serious if near the eye, and that results in glaucoma.
As the condition of glaucoma can result in blindness, she knew exactly what to do next, and that was to treat the condition by having it removed.
