Sky watchers will have the chance to catch the last blood moon as the next one won’t happen again until 2025.
The eclipse will occur Tuesday and will be visible in North and Central America, Australia, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of South America.
This celestial show happens when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align, with the moon turning blood red as it slips into the shadow of the Earth.
Total lunar eclipses are also called blood moons due to the beautiful hues caused by the Earth’s atmosphere, which scatter light from the sun and flash it on the surface of the moon.
Once the moon is completely covered, it will transform into a deep red.
After Tuesday’s blood moon, the next one will not happen again until March 14, 2025, according to NASA.
Dr. Tanya Hill, an astronomer at Melbourne Planetarium, told ABC that this blood moon will be a long one.
“I love lunar eclipses because they happen at the same time for everybody, it’s just the time zone that changes things,” Dr Hill said.
“We should get out to see this total lunar eclipse, because we won’t see another one in Australia until September 8, 2025.”
According to The Guardian, the rare event will be visible to North America in the early hours of the morning.
In Asia, Australia, and the rest of the Pacific, the total lunar eclipse can be spotted after sunset.
There is no need to worry about missing it as the eclipse will last for three hours and 40 minutes from the time it starts changing color.
Don’t forget to take your cameras out as there won’t be another one until 2025!
