A wife from Colorado was devastated after finding her dead husband’s remains inside the snow after a freak avalanche.
Sources from local media outlets were quick to speak about Donald Moden Jr who was said to be backcountry skiing near the Red Mountain Pass.
This is when all of a sudden, he caught inside the fatal snow slide.
His wife was said to be expecting a call from Moden towards the end of the ski day. When she did not hear back from him, she alerted the County Sheriff located over there.
This is when she found the avalanche and used a transceiver to attain the location deep within the snow.
The victim was said to be busy skiing when the tragedy struck. He was on his seventh run down the slope when all of a sudden, he passed over the weaker snow and that is what triggered the event.
Despite wearing an avalanche rescue transceiver with his airbag backpack, he died because it was not deployed despite being functional.
Investigators spoke more on the matter including how he was buried under three feet of snow. It was just too deep to impact a self-rescue.
He ended up skiing on the Red Mountain Pass for a good 16 years and knew that this terrain was called Red Number 3.
The reason he had chosen this particular terrain had to do with his prior knowledge of the slope and the whole snowpack.
