A young boy has reportedly taken his own life after being bounced around 18 different foster homes.
According to reports from local media outlets, it was a situation of utter desperation and tragedy that led him to do this, sources revealed.
Zhane Chilcott was only 13 when he took his life. The news has shocked and surprised those that knew him but his tragic story is being replayed across all of Southern Australia, with many calling those families that were allotted the responsibility to take care of him total failures.
The teen kept on moving back on forth from one home to the next. It was just so tragic to see the outcome of that behavior as he is no longer in this world.
Was his death preventable? It definitely seems so as an inquest heard how difficult it must have been for someone his age to go through so much.
But more details into the quest revealed how his story was complex and there were a lot of actors involved, not just one. But one thing is for sure, the fact that he had to shift between several foster homes meant the authorities needed to step in earlier to see if he was alright.
And in case he was not, they should have intervened. Others spoke about how much mental trauma he must have gone through and knowing that he had some psychiatric issues for so long meant that there was a lot going through his head.
“There were a number of missed opportunities but nobody picked up on those”- sources from the coroner’s office explained.
“Had those failings not taken place, he would not have come to that point in his life where he chose to end his life forever”- the coroner went on to conclude.
While some days were great for him, others were not. He did suffer from some serious behavioral issues as well. And those are believed to have taken place due to the trauma of his past.
