Bruce Willis was spotted in high spirits in a rare public appearance just months after his aphasia diagnosis.
The 67-year-old Hollywood star smiled from ear to ear as he was posing for a photo with a female fan and her baby in Santa Monica, California, on Monday.
According to the reports, the Armageddon star happily greeted the woman and her child outside Shutters On The Beach where Willis had lunch with a friend.
The pictures come as a surprise, whereas the actor is rarely seen in public after his family announced that he is struggling with speaking and understanding speech as a result of aphasia.
Aphasia is a language disorder stemming from damage to the area of the brain responsible for communication and language comprehension.
Willis’ family announced the actor’s condition, and his retirement, back in March after the Die Hard star was pictured wearing an earpiece on a movie set.
“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” Bruce’s family – including his wife Emma Hemming, ex-wife Demi Moore, and his five daughters – said in a joint statement.
“As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”
They added: “This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.
“As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”
