Bruce Willis’ wife has shared a tear-jerking message on the Hollywood legend’s 68th birthday.
Taking to Instagram to share her thoughts, 44-year-old Emma Heming Willis thanked her followers for their support while admitting that she was overcome with the feeling of sadness and grief on her husband’s birthday.
“Today is one of those days of feeling the grief and sadness. But the silver lining or the flip side is that I’m so lucky to feel your warmth and love that is directed to my husband and our family,” she wrote in the caption of her video.
“I see your messages, your stories that you share, and all I can say is thank you. Your connection helps me and I hope it helps you in a small way to know that I see you and I deeply understand your journey as well.”
The message comes shortly after the Die Hard star was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, a disorder causing progressive nerve cell loss and resulting in problems with behavior and communication.
The FTD diagnosis came a year after the actor announced he was stepping down from acting following his aphasia diagnosis.
Along with the bittersweet caption, Emma also shared a video in which she revealed that her husband’s birthday started with lots of crying and “swollen eyes” on her side.
“I just think it’s important that you see all sides of this. I always get this message where people always tell me, ‘Oh you’re so strong. I don’t know how you do it.’ I’m not given a choice. I wish I was but I’m also raising two kids in this,” she said.
“Sometimes in our lives, we have to put our big girl panties on and get to it. And that’s what I’m doing. But I do have times of sadness, every day, grief every day, and I’m really feeling it today on his birthday.”
Hours after her tear-jerking video, Emma also shared a video tribute to her husband showing clips of Bruce and Emma enjoying the special moments in their life.
Happy birthday, Bruce!
