The fast-food chain employee who went viral over his humble video in which he thanked his employer has spoken out after receiving thousands in donations.
54-year-old Kevin Ford gained instant social media fame after thanking Burger King for the small gift he received after working for the chain’s Las Vegas branch for 27 years without missing a single day.
In his Instagram video, Mr. Ford expressed his gratitude for the gift bag containing a tumbler, a movie ticket, a few pens, and some candies, that was given to him for his loyalty.
“So thankful, loyalty pays off,” the dedicated worker and a single father-of-two wrote as he shared a video of him unpacking the gift.
After his appreciative reaction to the humble gift went viral, Kevin’s daughter, Seryna, launched a GoFundMe page in hopes the family could collect enough money for the hardworking dad to visit his grandchildren in Texas.
Led by actor and comedian David Spade, Good Samaritans soon raised over $200,000 for the Burger King employee.
He was since invited to the Today show where he was surprised by his daughter and grandchildren whom the producers flew in much to Kevin’s surprise.
“It’s like a dream, a dream come true, that nobody can think of this. It’s just overwhelming. Especially all of the support I’m receiving every day. It’s awesome,” Mr. Ford told the Today host.
“I’m grateful for everything. I’m grateful for every day I wake up, that I can go to work, that I can be a good citizen, be a good American, and just, you know, do my part. I’m just grateful for everything I get.”
The father also appeared to break into tears as he embraced his grandchildren after not seeing them for a long time.
“I haven’t see you guys in so long,” he expressed.
Praising her father for being a great dad despite his dedication to his work, daughter Seryna added: “My dad deserves the world in my opinion. My dad gave me the world. My dad made me the person that I am, so, I love my dad more than I can ever put into words.”
Following the massive donation, Ford revealed he intends to donate some of the funds to the church and dedicate a portion towards his grandchildren’s education. The grandfather can now also take a break and go on a vacation knowing that his retirement fund just grew much bigger.
