The Olympics can take a toll on an athlete’s mental and physical health and this was proved with US gymnast Jade Carey’s recent performance.
Carey is said to have been fighting an illness behind closed doors that she says nobody knew about. She cited the bug as the reason for her crashing at the recently held floor exercise.
Her poor performance shocked many in the audience including her team and coach, let alone her loved ones.
How she fell to the ground was heartbreaking for some to see as it appeared that her nerves got the best of her and the pressure that came with performing live in front of the world.
Speaking during a recently held interview, she revealed how she was unable to eat anything in the past couple of days due to an illness and now opted to disclose this so that fans don’t assume that she was nervous.
She previously spoke about how her coach and her dad also ended up missing the podium training session as he was not well.
