Singer Rubby Perez is reportedly missing after a roof collapsed and killed 27 people at a popular nightclub in the Dominican Republic.
According to reports from local media outlets, the incident arose at about 12:44 am on Tuesday during the singer’s live performance when a section of the ceiling was seen falling down to the ground.
Footage shared on social media showed Perez, who had two hits on the Billboard charts, performing on stage when the ceiling came crashing down on him and the dancing crowd, and other performers.
Perez’s daughter and band vocalist, Zulinka Perez, explained to reporters that the legendary artist is trapped under the rubble and that he sang as a way to draw attention to the rescue workers searching for survivors.
The Emergency Operations Center explained how nearly 138 people were rushed to local hospitals in the Dominican capital.
First responders are now looking for survivors by making use of thermal cameras that could detect victims’ body heat signatures. Former Major League Baseball pitcher Octavio Dotel is also said to be trapped under the debris but managed to get rescued safely, as per local media outlets.
