King Charles is reportedly planning on turning Balmoral Castle into a museum in honor of his late mother.
Following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing last week, her eldest son, Charles III, has been crowned the king of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realms.
As the lying in state period for the longest-reigning monarch in British history continues, hundreds of thousands of people queued outside Westminster Hall in London in a bid to pay their respects to the Queen.
Meanwhile, King Charles III is beginning to experience the full weight of the monarch’s mantle as he is preparing to say his farewells at his mother’s funeral.
A source with inside knowledge has since also confirmed that the king is planning on converting Balmoral – the private Scottish Castle that was adored by the Queen – into a museum accessible to the public to honor his mother’s memory.
“Looking at the number of properties and the number of working members of the Royal family, the King will be looking at the properties and asking: ‘What value does this give to the public?’” the insider said.
The source added: “Now he plans to do something similar with Balmoral. But all these things are likely to take some time.”
While details of the alleged project remain shrouded in mystery, it is likely that the museum would offer displays of various outfits and jewelry collections adored by the Queen while focusing on the late monarch’s many achievements and a lifetime of service.
The museum would also serve as a representation of the Queen’s strong bond with Scotland where Charles already owns a retreat of his own.
According to the reports, it is believed that the museum could be opened to the public as early as next summer should everything progress according to plans.
