King Charles III was so delighted to see an adorable well-wisher during a walkabout with the Queen Consort in Northern Ireland.
He and his wife shook the hands of official dignitaries before going to Hillsborough, where they greeted mourners outside the royal residence.
The new monarch was deeply moved by the overflowing love of well-wishers who wanted to share their sympathies.
But it was Connie, an adorable Corgi, who stole the show during the King’s stop in Hillsborough.
Many people have been bringing their Corgis on royal walkabouts as a homage to Queen Elizabeth, who died peacefully at the age of 96.
Charles appeared thrilled when he spotted the breed as he grew up with his mother’s pack of Corgis and Dorgis.
He paused to offer his hand to Connie, who was being carried by his owner.
While having a brief conversation with the owner, Charles snuggled the adorable pooch and the young students who skipped class to see the new monarch.
The sweet moment gave some levity for the King as his schedule has been completely occupied by official events since his mother passed away.
The King vowed to follow the ‘shining example’ of his late mother as he and the Queen Consort were greeted by loud applause upon arriving in Northern Ireland.
In his speech praising the late Queen’s ‘long life of public service,’ he remarked on the ‘momentous and historic’ changes she witnessed in the province and said that she had ‘never ceased to pray for the best of times for this place and its people.’
