The father of Christian Wilkins has spoken out and defended his celebrity son after the latter decided to wear a revealing dress.
Taking a jab at modern-day fashion norms, 26-year-old Christian Wilkins wore a sheer backless dress to Logie Awards and proudly posed for photos in the skimpy gown.
After the event, the Australian reality TV star, who appeared in Dancing with the Stars, suffered a backlash on the internet with people calling him names and slamming his decision to wear a dress.
Now, the young man’s father, entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins, spoke out and defended his son from his haters while calling him brave.
“I didn’t flinch when I saw Christian in that dress. I didn’t think much of it,” he told The Daily Telegraph’s Confidential.
“It’s not all my cup of tea, I couldn’t pull it off. But he is doing it because he is having fun.”
While the father admitted there was an “odd time over the years” when he was still adjusting to his son’s decision to wear feminine clothing, he says he is a proud dad who admires Christian’s “bravery.”
“I admire his bravery. He has great style. He is fashion forward. I am boring in my black suit, black shoes and a bow-tie. I’m not really shaking things up, am I?” Wilkins added.
The reporter spoke out after trolls lashed out at Christian and told him he was a disappointment to his family after his Logie Awards photos went viral.
“So… to anyone who dares to suggest that I am in any way ‘ashamed’ of my son Christian.. for whatever reason… You are wrong!” he concluded.
