The young lady in question took to Reddit to see if she was in the wrong for organizing a booze-free Christmas for her family and her in-laws.

As she explained, her husband’s family loves to have alcohol at every event. Due to her father being an alcoholic, however, she decided to ban alcoholic drinks after voluntarily offering to host Christmas dinner this year.

“I’m hosting Christmas for a change I decided since it’s at my house no alcohol allowed we are all getting older and it’s time to grow up,” the woman wrote.

“My husband’s sister called to ask what she could bring. She saw a recipe for a Christmas martini that she wanted to bring. I told her about my no alcohol rule.”

After sharing her controversial rules, the woman’s in-laws threatened to boycott the get-together and have a party of their own. Taking their side was also the woman’s husband who suggested he wanted to attend his sister’s party instead.

“It’s so disrespectful all because they would have to spend one day sober. My husband told me he talked to his sister and we are invited to her gathering and he said we should just go and stop causing issues but I won’t it’s so rude,” the woman added.

After asking the internet for advice, the woman was slammed and advised to stop being selfish and self-absorbed because the holiday wasn’t about her.

“Get off your high horse and stop telling grown a** adults what to do. It’s not like they’re insisting you buy them alcohol. If they want to drink on their downtime they don’t need your permission whether it’s your house or not,” someone wrote.

“That type of behavior is childish as well. You can make rules for your home. You can choose to not drink and not like to be around drinking. Nobody else has to be forced to come in line with your expectations,” another said.

A third suggested: “I understand where you come from. But you need to understand where other people come from too. It’s not your wedding or your birthday: this celebration is not about you and your wants. It’s a celebration to bring people together.”
