Canada just warned that it would be dramatically reducing its reliance on the US as the two nations’ relationship darkens, the country’s PM shared on Thursday.
He also mentioned how the age-old bilateral relationship between both of them was now over and nothing could salvage it.
The news comes after Mark Carney held a cabinet meeting for this same reason in response to Trump’s tariff threats.
He spoke to reporters in Ottawa about foreseeing the future, about having a fundamentally different relationship between the two nations.
“It’s so clear to us that the US is no longer our reliable partner. They would need to prove that they mean more than what they’ve shown in the recent past. This includes deeper integration of the economies on both sides and tighter security and military cooperation as well,” he shared.
Future governments would need to grapple with the same sort of dynamics established in Canada shared as they spoke about a lot of tasks being left to do.
Hours before he started his speech to the press, we saw US President Donald Trump share that both Canada and the EU would be facing higher tariffs, much bigger than what they had planned at the start, so they could unite and work together to harm the American economy.
