Russian Warplanes Detected Flying Off Coast of America in Terrifying Escalation

Russian warplanes were seen flying off the coast of Alaska and tracked by American military, the North American Aerospace Defense Command shared on Tuesday.

The Russian plane never entered the American or Canadian sovereign airspace, NORAD confirmed, but the planes were certainly a shocking discovery, sources have confirmed.

‘It’s not a major threat, but it’s definitely a terrifying escalation that the US was not aware of’- the report went on to share.

While Russian planes remained in the international airspace, they did enter a part beyond the US and Canada’s sovereign airspace called the ADIZ or Air Defense Identification Zone, where the planes are expected to identify themselves.

The ADIZ is a stretch of international airspace bordering the sovereign space around America and Canada, which both nations monitor in order to detect all planes passing through. Surveillance in this zone is maintained for several reasons, national security being the major reason. The news comes just three months after the US and Canadian fighter jets were seen scrambling to shadow several warplanes from Russia that were seen in the Arctic.
