A couple has been left stunned after they were called out for growing their own vegetables in their own private garden.
Lee and Kirstie Lawes claim to be going green during the pandemic and that’s one of the main reasons why they opted to grow their own vegetables, instead of hopping off to the market to make the purchases.
“We wanted to transform a section of our lawn into a vegetable patch as a part of our own private project during the lockdown,”- they explained. But little were they aware of the rude awakening by officials in store for them.
While their project during the pandemic turned out to be a major success, they didn’t know authorities were watching their every move with eagle eye vision.
“It was such a huge success for us all. We managed to hand out food grown in our patch to all the neighbors too,”- they explained.
The couple who hails from Deeping St. James in Lincs now claims to have been hit with a huge fine worth 500 British Pounds to fix a breach slapped on by authorities, that they had zero ideas about.
The officials from the local council showed up at their residence to give them the bad news, adding how their premises is classified as an open space and that means it can’t be fenced off for this purpose.
In the same way, the couple has also been ordered to pay out a planning application to alter the use of their private garden too.
But the news just didn’t make sense to so many others, let alone, the couple themselves who say they have every right to grow their own vegetables in their garden.
