International football star David Beckham has been praised online after it was revealed he waited in line for 13 hours to pay his respects to the Queen.

Following the Queen’s passing last week, mourners have been waiting in queue outside Westminster Hall for up to thirty hours for the privilege of passing by the Queen’s coffin and paying their respects.

The Queen’s coffin will remain at Westminster Hall until the end of the lying in state period which concludes at 6.30 am on September 19.

Among those willing to wait in a miles-long line was no other than the former Manchester United star who reportedly refused to cut in line after being offered to jump ahead by a member of parliament.

For the occasion, Beckham went incognito by donning a black trench coat, black pants, and a dark cap that covered his forehead.

“We all want to be here together. We all want to experience something where we celebrate the amazing life of our Queen and I think something like this today is meant to be shared together,” the footballer told BBC News after being recognized.

He went on to admit that his cover was blown after some twelve hours of waiting in line when other mourners started posting pictures of him on the internet.

The athlete also opened up about his waiting time saying he managed to get by thanks to snacks including “Pringles, sherbet lemons, sandwiches, coffee and doughnuts.”

Meanwhile, a source told DailyMail.com how the 47-year-old former captain of team England refused to jump the line after an invitation by an MP saying his “real-life hero” grandfather would be disappointed if he did so.

“David could have avoided all of the queuing but he wanted to be like everyone else. He said his grandad wouldn’t have [jumped the queue] so neither would he,” the insider claimed.

“He had been wondering all week when the best time was to go and finally he went for this morning. David was brought up in an East End family who were real royalists – the kind who would stand to attention when the national anthem came on. He wanted to go to see the Queen like any other member of the public.”
