Malia Obama is feeling the heat from critics who slammed her for kickstarting her new career with a directorial debut without using her surname.
Malia has made it very clear that she’s not keen on using her father’s credentials because she wants to make a name for herself on her own, without the need for any references.
The daughter of former US President Barack Obama says it’s a sensible call on her part because the tag of being a nepo baby or a nepo star because of how her father served as the country’s head of state in the past is just uncalled for.
“I want to build my own identity and not live under the shadow of another”- she continued. But that has plenty of people talking as they feel she might be disrespecting her father in this manner.
Malia first made headlines when she chose to roll out her first efforts as a director under a stage name but social media still happens to be blasting the former First Daughter for having nepo baby roots.
The 25-year-old had even directed her first short film called ‘The Heart’ and it debuted in the middle of January this year, with plenty of applause and accolades from critics at the Sundance Film Festival.
But a new resurfaced clip from that event sees the young starlet describing herself without her famous Obama surname. She dropped the globally recognized credentials to many people’s surprise and opted to credit the whole project with a new name as Malia Ann.
Trolls were seen blasting the youngster for hiding behind covers, while others stated that her face was just too famous to ignore. “She’s been the first daughter and no matter how much she tries to erase Obama from her name, that’s not happening!” Do you agree?
