The timeline depicting the horror that arose yesterday night after an American Airlines jet collided with a helicopter from the military has been shared.
Air traffic controllers were able to piece moments of the incident together they issued a warning to the American Army helicopter about getting too close to the passenger plane.
Less than 30 seconds before the crash took place in mid-air, an air traffic controller radioed the helicopter if they had spotted the CRJ which was the plane that had taken off from Wichita Kan. The chopper seemed to be flying up the Potomac before the crash.
On that note, the pilot of the helicopter says that he does indeed see it and requests for visual separation. He said that he was going to try and make the vehicle fly out of the plane’s path. But seconds later, the explosion arose which meant he should have been warned earlier to avoid the damage that arose.
The air traffic controllers can be heard reacting as a fear of terror and silence fills the air. “Did you see that?”- that’s all that can be heard from a distance and orders for all flights to be grounded and the airport to be shut were made as planes were ordered to return to the gate until further notice.
