The terrifying moment a fire-breathing dragon in California’s Disneyland burst into flames was caught on camera.
Taking visitors of Disneyland’s Tom Sawyer Island by surprise on Saturday night, the 45-foot animatronic dragon erupted into massive flames during the park’s iconic ‘Fantasmic!’ show.
After the tall structure burst into flames, families could be seen crying out in shock and scattering in different directions.
Fleeing the scene were also the show’s cast members who were taken aback when the dragon’s head erupted into a fireball without a warning.
According to the reports, some one thousand people were quickly evacuated from the site and no one was injured in the process.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, this performance of ‘Fantasmic!’ cannot continue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” a public announcement at the park read.
After the incident, Disneyland also confirmed the unexpected blaze in an official statement in which the theme park reassured its visitors that visitors were safely evacuated and that the fire remains under investigation.
“During the final showing of Fantasmic at Disneyland park on Saturday evening, the dragon caught fire,” the theme park revealed.
“Anaheim Fire & Rescue quickly responded and the fire was extinguished. All cast members were evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island.
“Due to smoke and wind, attractions near the island were safely cleared of any guests, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.”
After the fire, the Frontierland site was closed off while the rest of the park remained open to thousands of visitors from around the globe.
As of this writing, the cause of the blaze remains to be determined.
