Dolly Parton has received heaps of support from her fanbase after critics accused her of not dressing age appropriately.
The 77-year-old country icon set pulses racing as she performed some of her greatest hits at the halftime show of the Thanksgiving NFL game between the Commanders and Cowboys in Dallas, Texas.
During her performance, Parton sang some of her greatest hits including Jolene and 9 to 5 while keeping the show running with Queen’s We Are the Champions/We Will Rock You.
For the occasion, the country idol dressed in a revealing blue-and-white cheerleading outfit that accentuated her slim frame.
While many praised the singer for her “courageous” and “age-defying” look, not everyone seemed impressed by the fact that a 77-year-old woman sported a cheerleading outfit.
“I honestly don’t care what Dolly Parton does. I have no desire to tell anyone how to dress. However, if I were asked my opinion then I’d have to say no, she should dress her age. A 77 year old woman shouldn’t be dressing like that,” someone wrote.
“She looks RIDICULOUS. And it was horrific lip-synching! She could have wore something similar but that looks classy for her age. She looks like a CLOWN,” another said.
A third complained: “Nothing against her but she shouldn’t be dressing like a teenager at 77.”
Hitting back at the critics were thousands of fans who backed the singer up and insisted she looked amazing in the cheerleading outfit.
“Well, she’s 77 years old and pulled it off quite nicely. I can’t think of any other 77-year-old out there that could do what she did tonight. She looks amazing for her age!” one user posted on X.
“Dolly Parton, and any woman, can dress however they want at whatever age they want,” another shared.
One fan wrote: “Dolly Parton can dress any way she likes. Why? Because she’s Dolly Freaking Parton — and she’ll look AMAZING doing it.”
