A mega rescue mission is currently underway in Tanzania after terrifying and tragic reports spoke about a passenger plane crashing into Lake Victoria, just minutes before reaching the airport.
The passengers were stated to be evacuated from the small passenger plane that crashed on Sunday, leaving local fishermen in shock who happened to be in the close vicinity.
The passenger jet was stated to be operated by Precision Air and it was just minutes into approaching the Bukoba Airport in Tanzania today. And that’s why it crash landed into the lake, which is deemed to be Africa’s largest lake.
Meanwhile, reports from local authorities spoke about how 26 of the 43 people aboard the flight PW494 had been rescued and were now being shifted on an urgent basis to a nearby medical facility.
The doomed flight had reportedly taken off from the city of Dar es Salaam.
For now, it’s not clear if the cause of the plane was determined or not as investigations are still taking place and that’s why authorities are not revealing too many details on what exactly may have gone wrong.
The plane crash reportedly took place amid crazy weather conditions and heavy rain and that’s why poor weather conditions are definitely being looked at as one of the major factors that may have led to the air disaster.
Meanwhile, heartbreaking reports from BBC have spoken about the death of at least 19 people while news reports showcased images of the plane mostly submerged inside the lake.
On the other hand, video footage is also circulating around social media at this moment and it features emergency responders performing different rescue efforts.
The images showed the tail of the aircraft poking out of the lake while the rest of the aircraft’s body was submerged.
