Elliot Page revealed he had secretly dated actress Kate Mara prior to his transition into a male.
According to the 36-year-old Juno star, he was in a secret relationship with Kate Mara back in 2014 after he publicly came out as gay.
At the time, Mara was dating actor Max Minghella and was allegedly “in love with two people” including the Oscar nominee.
That same year, Mara and Minghella parted ways after four years of dating and the actress eventually met and married actor Jamie Bell whom she now shares two children with.
Explaining his brief romance with the actress in his memoir, Pageboy, Elliot wrote:
“The first person I fell for after my heart was broken was Kate Mara. She had a boyfriend at the time, the lovely and talented Max Minghella.
“This was right after I’d come out as gay and it was a time of exploration and also heartbreak. I think my relationship, or whatever you want to call it with Kate, very much encapsulates a certain dynamic that I consistently found myself in, which was falling for people that — I think a lot of us do this — who aren’t fully available.”
In the Pageboy excerpt shared by People, Elliot went on to say that Max was very supportive of his relationship with Kate as he insisted the House of Cards star loved them both.
“I never thought I could be in love with two people and now I know I can,” Kate allegedly told Elliot after falling for the Juno star.
Elsewhere in his memoir, Elliot admitted to “feeling like a boy” since a young age though he only came out as a trans man back in 2020.
He also recalled the 2008 time – which took place just before the Juno premiere – he went to a gay bar where he met a woman who helped him break out of the “shame” he felt.
“Everything was cold before, motionless, emotionless. Any woman I had loved hadn’t loved me back, and the one who maybe had, loved me the wrong way,” the actor wrote.
“But here I was, on a dance floor with a woman who wanted to kiss me and the antagonizing, cruel voice that flooded my head whenever I felt desire was silent.”
He continued: “Shame had been drilled into my bones since I was my tiniest self, and I struggled to rid my body of that old toxic and erosive marrow. But there was a joy in the room, it lifted me, forced a reaction in the jaw, an uncontrolled, steady smile.”
