BREAKING: Emmy-Winning Actor And ‘Homicide: Life On The Street’ Star Has Passed Away


Emmy-winning actor Andre Braugher has passed away at the age of 61 after a brief illness.

The Chicago-native performer was best known for appearing as Raymond Holt on 153 episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and as Detective Frank Pembleton on 100 episodes of Homicide: Life on the Street.

Throughout his fruitful career, Braugher was nominated for an Emmy 11 times. He took home a total of two Emmys for his work on Homicide: Life on the Street and his 2006 role as Nick Atwater in Thief.

It was now revealed that the beloved actor passed away following a “brief illness.” His death was confirmed by the actor’s rep, Jennifer Allen.

He is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Ami Brabson, and their three children including John, Isaiah, and Michael. He is also survived by mother Sally Braugher and brother Charles Jennings.

Besides his most memorable, longtime roles, the Chicago actor also appeared in a variety of other shows and films including the likes of The Mist, Frequency, City of Angels, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, The Gambler, Poseidon, Primal Fear, and Duets.

Back in 2020, Andre spoke to Variety about his successful career as he called it “interesting” while admitting he could have done even more.

“It’s been an interesting career, but I think it could have been larger. I think it could have spanned more disciplines: directing, producing, all these other different things,” he said.

As the actor explained, however, his family always came first.

“I’ve got three boys, and I want them to know me as someone other than the guy who takes them to the circus every once in a while. I wanted to be there through the course of their life because I know how important fathers are,” he added at the time.
