Val Kilmer’s family is breaking their silence after the death of the legendary star following a lengthy battle with throat cancer.
The heartfelt message comes as former wife Joanne Whalley and daughter Mercedes shared an emotional reunion in LA while mourning the loss.
Kilmer’s daughter mentioned how the passing away of her dad on Tuesday night from a case of pneumonia was so difficult for the family.
He was only 65, and she was seen joining her brother Jack and mother Whalley in issuing a joint statement to fans.
It went on to read: ‘Thank you for honoring our extraordinary dad’s memory. We are super proud of him and honored to see his legacy being celebrated!’
The statement shared how they were planning to request some time alone. This time around, it was all about grieving in private.
Kilmer’s family began to gather for a final farewell on Wednesday. Mercedes was seen hugging her mother tightly outside the residence in West Hollywood.
Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2015 after throwing up blood and enduring a serious treatment including chemotherapy, radiation, and tracheotomy. This left him with permanent vocal damage and the need to use a voice box to speak. He was also said to be struggling financially.
