The wife of Erasure producer and keyboardist Vince Clarke has passed away at the age of 53 after a lengthy health battle.
53-year-old US native Tracy Hurley Martin succumbed to her illness after battling stomach cancer for two years. It is believed she passed away at her New York home where she lived with her husband, the Star of the English pop duo Erasure.
The saddening news was confirmed by Andy Bell, Vince’s close friend and the co-founder of Erasure, who took to social media to pay tribute to Tracy and her family.
“There are no words. My heart, my soul, and all of my love goes to Vincent and Oscar, Tonya, Michael and Isabelle and all of Tracy’s family and friends,” he wrote. “May God bless our precious Tracy.”
While Clarke has yet to break the silence about his wife’s passing, he previously spoke out about her illness in October when he admitted that making music had been “therapeutic” for him.
“Something like this does affect everything that you do, you know. It does affect your life. And I think it’s affected the way that I listen to, and look to, music,” he said.
“Doing this kind of music in particular is very therapeutic. It’s helped me to switch off all of the other stuff and just think about sounds. Even though it’s not even me that is going through something directly. You know, I’m just a carer.”
Meanwhile, Martin issued a heartfelt statement in which she thanked her loved ones back in February 2022 after getting diagnosed with stomach cancer.
“I’m not only thankful for the treatment but for the around the clock care and unwavering support my husband and sister have provided me. I tear up just writing how much I love them both,” she said at the time.
“I have reached a depth of love for all of you that I had no idea existed.”
