Evan Peters has won a Golden Globe for his chilling role as Jeffrey Dahmer in the hit Netflix series.
The 35-year-old actor, who was praised by fans for his disturbingly convincing performance in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, scooped the prestigious award as he shared his hopes that “some good” might “come out of the role.”
Accepting the Golden Globe Best Actor award, Peters said: “Thank you to the HFPA, thank you to Netflix and Mr. Ryan Murphy for letting me be a part of your brilliant vision again.
“And the entire post-production team for showing me how they work their brilliant magic. I want to thank this incredible cast and crew and directors.”
In the Best Actor in Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Television Motion Picture category, Peters competed against and bested tough competition including Colin Firth from The Staircase, Taron Egerton from Blackbird, Sebastian Stan from Pam & Tommy, and Andrew Garfield from Under the Banner of Heaven.
While the controversial Netflix series racked up heaps of praise as well as a tremendous amount of criticism, Peters believes something good might yet come out of the show.
“It was a colossal team effort. Everyone gave it their all and I would not be up here without them. I want to thank my family, friends, and loved ones who carried me to the finish line,” he added.
“And last but most importantly I want to thank everyone who watched the show it was a difficult one to make, a difficult one to watch but I sincerely hope some good came out of it.”
As for the series’ showrunner, Ryan Murphy, he responded to criticism coming from Dahmer’s victims’ families saying the crew reached out to them numerous times while writing the show.
“We, over the course of the three-and-a-half years when we were writing it, working on it, we reached out to around 20 of the victims’ families and friends trying to get input, trying to talk to people, and not a single person responded to us in that process,” he said.
“So we relied very, very heavily on our incredible group of researchers who… I don’t even know how they found a lot of this stuff. But it was just like a night and day effort to us trying to uncover the truth of these people.”
