JD Vance was snubbed by Pope Francis during his recent visit to the Vatican on the weekend.
The news comes after the Pope slammed the Trump administration’s decision to crack down on all migrants in the country.
Vance, who is a Catholic convert, was instead greeted by the Vatican secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. He was also met by the foreign minister, Archbishop Pete Gallagher, on Saturday.
There were great speculations about Vance meeting the Pope or not, as he’s begun resuming most of his official duties after his recovery from a scary episode of pneumonia. However, the pair had yet to meet one another.
The Holy See rolled out a statement after Vance’s meeting with the Vatican’s number two official. He confirmed how they both have great relations but noted that a cross-exchange of opinions regarding international conflicts, prisoners, and migrants did exist.
Vance was spending Easter weekend in Rome with his loved ones and even attended the Good Friday services in St. Peter’s Basilica on Friday after meeting with Italy’s Premier Giorgia Meloni.
