American-born Chinese figure skater Zhu Yi was seen having an emotional breakdown during a recent live event at the Beijing Olympics.
Zhu Yi started to cry after she fell down again at the Olympics for a second time, just one day after she was branded as a huge disgrace to the Chinese nation for her poor performance.
So many of her countrymen were beyond appalled at the way she had performed on both days, causing her team China to fall down to the last position on the scoreboard.
The 19-year-old was pictured crying after she fell in the women’s short program that took place on Monday.
Yesterday, the figure skater also finished with the lowest point on the scoreboard and this marks her failing twice during her debut at the Olympics.
Zhu was originally born in America and was named Beverly Zu by her parents. However, after choosing to compete for the country of China, she was forced to give up her US citizenship and also change her name for the competition.
But now, so many people are questioning why the athlete who was born in the US was even allowed to represent China in the first place.
Zhu failed to land a crucial jump and fell on the opening combo. Simiarly, she botched another one of her jumps that took place later on in her short program.
Today was the team’s final event in the competition and after failing to deliver, she could be seen crying on the sides of the stadium.
On Twitter, plenty of Chinese citizens bashed her for knocking down China from 5th to 3rd position while the hashtag “Zhu Yi has fallen” also began to go viral on social media.
