The five people inside the missing Titanic submersible have been identified.
The vessel Titan has gone missing around an hour and 45 minutes after it plunged into the depths of the North Atlantic Ocean.
Operators became concerned after the sub stopped providing signals to confirm operation but two days later, there is still no sign of the vessel, which was supposed to explore the Titanic wreckage.
According to the US Coast Guard, over 10,000 square miles had been searched by Tuesday morning.
Rear Admiral John Mauger of the US Coast Guard told reporters on Monday that Titan only had 96 hours’ worth of oxygen.
He also appeared on Today show where he explained that the expedition company “know(s) the site better than anybody else” and that they prioritize areas were the tour usually operates.
It has been confirmed that the passengers aboard the missing vessel include “a space-traveling British billionaire, one of Pakistan’s wealthiest men and a retired commander in the French navy” who led the first expedition to the site of the wreckage.
According to the New York Post, Shanzada Dawood – vice chairman of the Pakistani energy manufacturing and tech conglomerate Engro Corporaton – and his son Sulaiman, 19, are onboard the sub.
Deep diver Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77, who led the first expedition to the Titanic wreckage in 1987, was also aboard.
Hamish Harding, a British billionaire, is among the missing passengers.
Stockton Rush, the founder and CEO of OceanGate, was also named as one of the inside the vessel.
Before their underwater journey, Harding took to social media to announced that he would be taking part in the expedition to see the Titanic.
“I am proud to finally announce that I joined @oceangateexped for their RMS TITANIC Mission as a mission specialist on the sub going down to the Titanic,” he wrote.
The billionaire also told his followers that there would be more expedition updates.
