Twins from Brazil who reportedly underwent a 27-hour-long surgery have now successfully been separated.
According to local media outlets, the twins are just three years old in age and are named Bernardo and Arthur Lima. They were born with fused brains, which made their lives all the more complicated.
But now, one great pediatric surgeon has managed to use revolutionary space age technology to carry out the procedure successfully, giving the duo a new shot at living a healthy and stress-free life.
It has been revealed that around 100 different medics operated on the duo for a staggering 27-hour-long surgery that required plenty of experience and intricate decision-making. But with the British neurosurgeon’s lead, things went exactly as planned.
The surgery took place in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, where renowned neurosurgeon and kids specialist Dr, Noor ul Owase Jeelani oversaw the whole procedure and called out all the shots for the procedure.
Sources revealed how the surgery was undeniably complex that has ever been carried out and completed with success. It was also mentioned how the neurosurgeon’s charity called Gemini Untwined was responsible for all the funding.
Months before the surgery could take place, medical experts from both the UK and Brazil put their heads together and came up with a foolproof plan, after trialing all the options and techniques at hand. This included the likes of VR technology projections that comprised CT and MRI scans, which many call ‘space age stuff’.
History has proven how such cases of separation are not only delicate but their mortality rates differ from case to case. And that’s exactly what made the entire ordeal so difficult for medical experts. With that said, success rates have also improved over time.
After the surgery’s completion, the babies will need additional care for rehabilitation and recovery, the doctors added.
