As days go by quickly, the world’s population continues to increase at an alarming pace.

Today is the day that the world is brought to the reality of the situation that the current population stands at 8 billion people from all around the world.

And now, the world is turning its attention to a little girl birth in the Philippines who is deemed to be the eighth billionth person.

According to reports by local media outlets, the United Nations has already sent out so many alarm bells regarding the fact that while this might appear to be a milestone for some, it’s a huge risk for others in the future.

The UN’s director for the population division mentioned how this is not a major sign of human success as it’s a huge risk to the future. And if the rate at which population growth isn’t controlled, we could be dealing with a huge disaster.

The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterre also mentioned in a statement the birth of the world’s eighth billionth person.

“Billions of people are struggling out there. And then we’ve got hundreds of millions facing hunger and even famine. Then there are record numbers on the move who try to seek more opportunities and relief from debt and hardship, wars, and even climate disasters”- he continued.

For him, this was not a celebration but a reminder that the world is getting ready to tackle a huge challenge that is full of tensions and mistrust, conflict, and even a lot of crisis.

“People don’t have food to eat, water to drink, and a shelter above their heads. There is inflation, economic uncertainty, and poor growth everywhere”- he explained.
