A teenage girl who was hugged by Meghan Markle has spoken out and recalled the precious moment she shared with the Duchess of Sussex.
14-year-old Amelka Zak was awaiting the royals outside Windsor Castle when Prince William, Kate, Prince Harry, and Meghan put their differences on hold and walked side by side to greet their fans and honor the late Queen’s memory.
During the walkabout, Prince William and Prince Harry walked in separate directions along with their wives to greet the crowd that gathered to mourn the Queen.
At one point, the Duchess of Sussex approached Zak who asked her for a hug saying she wanted to make Meghan feel that she was “still welcome” in the UK despite leaving her life as a royal on bad terms.
“We were just waiting for her to come and she came near me and asked my name and how my day was, how long I was waiting,” the teen recalled in an interview with CNN.
“And I asked her if I could have a hug, and she hugged me back. It was quite an amazing moment. I’m still shaking now.”
Zak went on to say that she simply wanted to give the duchess a warm welcome because she looks up to her “in some way.”
“Everyone was kind of cheering me on and I guess I felt like I needed to in the way, because I look up to her in some way and it felt like the right thing to do,” she added.
The 14-year-old also commented on William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan’s reunification as she suggested it was “nice to see” the fab four back together after “everything that’s happened.”
“It was quite nice to see William and Kate and Megan and Harry together,” Zak says.
“And it was fine, but I just wanted to like show her that she’s, like, welcome here, I guess. And wanted to hug her after everything that’s happened, really, now.”
