Goodfellas star Paul Sorvino has passed away on Monday morning.
The 83-year-old American actor, businessman, sculptor, writer, and opera singer reportedly died of natural causes after dealing with various medical issues over the last decade.
According to the legendary actor’s publicist, Roger Neal, Sorvino died at his Indiana home. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his actress wife Dee Dee Benkie.
In a tribute to her husband of eight years, Benkie wrote: “Our hearts are broken, there will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life, and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage.”
Sorvino, who is best known for his roles in Goodfellas and Law & Order, had a long and successful career spanning five decades.
While the actor often suggested he is best known for playing a gangster, he admitted his biggest passion in life were opera, painting, and poetry.
Among other major credits that he added to his name, Sorvino played Paul Cicero in Goodfellas and appeared on screen alongside the likes of Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Joe Pesci.
He also played mafia boss Eddie Valentine in The Rocketeer, Henry Kissinger in Nixon, Phil Romano in That Championship Season, Louis Fraina in Reds, Sergeant Phil Cerreta in Law & Order, and many more.
Confirming the legend’s passing was also Paul’s daughter, Mira, who expressed:
“My father the great Paul Sorvino has passed. My heart is rent asunder- a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend.”
Our thoughts are with Paul’s family as they continue to grieve.
