The state of New York has declared an emergency after the wildfires in the Hamptons begin to rage.

According to reports from local media outlets, the wildfires set the Hamptons ablaze with residents left with no choice but to flee the area.

Flames started to erupt alongside the Sunrise Highway near Long Island’s Riverhead and East Hampton during the afternoon hours of Saturday.

The fire department shared more on this front, including how the surrounding skies were full of smoke, and more than 70 fire departments responded to the scene with 50 emergency service units.

At the moment, the emergency resulted in first responders dropping water on the area as crews were dispatched to work alongside the National Guard to keep the blaze under control.

New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul shared with News 12 that a state of emergency was called upon her orders. Her office is now in close contact with the Suffolk County Police Department.
