The Queen got to meet her great-granddaughter Lilibet when Prince Harry and Meghan went to Windsor Castle after the Trooping of Color.
The emotional family reunion happened shortly after the Sussexes arrived in the UK by a private jet, the Daily Mail reported.
The meeting also served as a moment for Her Majesty to be reunited with the couple’s 3-year-old son, Archie.
Lilibet, who will celebrate her first birthday in the UK, was named in tribute to the Queen, whose nickname was Lilibet.
Her Majesty’s father George VI was quoted saying of his children: “Lilibet is my pride. Margaret is my joy.”
The childhood nickname was also used by the Queen’s late husband Prince Philip and also close family and friends.
Many previously saw Harry and Meghan’s decision to name their daughter after the monarch as an attempt to emphasize their connections with the Royal Family.
According to a report from BBC, the couple had not asked permission to use Lilibet. But a spokesperson for the Sussexes insisted that the Queen was informed and that they wouldn’t have used the name Lilibet for their child had Her Majesty disapproved of it.
“he duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement – in fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called,” the spokesperson said.
“During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”
The Duke of Sussex then threatened legal action against the broadcaster, saying the claims were ‘defamatory’ and ‘false.’
Harry and Meghan welcomed Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor in June 2021 in California. Her name honors the Queen and Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana.
