The police have released a series of handwritten letters that Gene Hackman and his partner Betsy Arakwa, had written to one another.
The undated notes were found scattered through the reclusive couple’s residence. They offer a glimpse into the final years of their relationship.
The pair was found lifeless in their residence in Santa Fe on February 26. The star passed away from heart disease with complications from Alzheimer’s disease, nearly a week after the pianist succumbed to hantavirus.
Some notes in particular were said to be so heartwarming and romantic, and many got to take a glimpse of how loving this duo actually were in real life.
In one of the notes, the 95-year-old was seen apologizing to his wife for asking her to help prepare her own birthday dinner.
The note started off with a good morning and then it wished her a happy few days after her birthday. He then apologized about the dinner and taking her help. It ended with a love you ending and his sign which many thought was so loving.
In another playful letter, the Oscar star seemingly revealed that he was aware of his deteriorating health.
‘I’m going down to that building out past the hot water place where you sit, and do whatever it is that people are supposed to do in such a building- maybe I’ll remember once I get down there’- the letter ended.
Instead of the usual sign, he mentioned love, what’s his name? There were also some adorable little cues and place cards that his wife had put out that would serve as reminders for him to do some important tasks each day, in case he forgot about them.
