A fishing village in the southwestern part of the Island was told to evacuate after boiling hot lava started to spew from the volcanic eruption.
This is the eighth region to experience the effect of a lava eruption since the end of 2023.
New footage detailed more through monitoring cameras that showed a long train of lava fountains spanning nearly 2km long as the volcano erupted during the morning hours.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office shared more about how the eruption began on the Crater Row north of the fishing village Grindvik.
Efforts are currently underway during the morning hours to evacuate the location as per reports from Visir.
The five-star Blue Lagoon Hotel is located at the volcano’s base and was evacuated from guests who were shifted to nearby locations as the magma began to erupt.
The hotel’s manager shared how guests had to be woken up as soon as it started to become more apparent that a magma shower began.
The reports from the meteorological office shared how the earthquake swarm started during the morning hours on the Sundhunkur Crater Row in a similar manner to the previous eruptions.
