Superstar Adele is being accused of Transphobia after making a bold declaration at the recent Brit Awards.
The celeb made it a point to let the world know that she couldn’t be more proud of her female status, declaring the words at a woke gender-neutral awards ceremony recently.
The renowned ‘Rolling in the Deep’ singer put out the comment as she collected the award for ‘Artist of the Year’, which happens to be a newly introduced category that merges the previous best male and best female singer awards.
Amid a large uproar and cheer from audience members, Adele revealed how she totally understands why this award’s name has changed. Moreover, she even spoke about how much it means to her to win such a prestigious award.
While thanking the audience, many felt that the singer was channeling her inner feminist voice while making the announcement. “I am so proud of all of us, I really am”- she went on to mention.
Despite receiving so much support from audience members in the gigantic Arena, there were plenty of backlashes that soon followed the star.
Outraged fans accused her of being a radical feminist and excluding trans individuals. Others strongly felt that the celeb used the platform in the wrong manner, instead of promoting diversity.
Then there was plenty of talk about how the singer could have made the same amount of effort to continue with her show in Las Vegas, just like she chose to do for the Brit Awards. As it is, many anxious and eager fans are awaiting their refund for tickets bought for the US-based show that was reportedly canceled amid much controversy.
Twitter was filled with comments labeling Adele as a transphobe who was certainly using her power to destruct the trans community.
