A top Olympic skier and his father have reportedly passed away in a closed ski resort hotel in Turkey on Thursday.
Berkin Usta and his 57-year-old father, Yahya, were killed when the terrifying fire broke out at the Kervansaray Hotel in Uludag, Bursa province.
Usta had competed in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games and was the founder of the team called Skicraft. His dad worked as the head of the Turkish Ski and Snowboard Teachers Association.
Just hours before that, the talented individual posted a comforting video by a log fire on his Instagram Stories page. After his death, there was an outpouring of comments that paid tribute to him that began flooding in.
‘I learned with deep sorrow that our national athlete Berkin Usta and his dad Yahya Usta died in the fire that broke out at the hotel in Uludag, ‘ the country’s sports minister shared.
Prosecutors were seen rolling out an investigation on this front. It just just a few months after a blaze ripped through a massive 12-story ski resort in the county’s northwestern region, killing up to 79 people.
