Russia’s armed forces have suffered another major blow after its second army general was recently killed during a battle.
The deceased general was recently identified as 45-year-old Major General Vitaly Gerasimov who was reportedly killed by Ukrainian forces on Monday.
The news was confirmed by Ukraine’s ministry of defense claim that the general was killed near the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
This is being looked at as another major blow for Russia as General Gerasimov was deemed to be Russia’s first-ever military commander hailing from the country’s 41st armed force division.
His sudden killing isn’t something that Russia was expecting as the country’s forces continue to battle it out without making any territorial gains in the past two days.
This is Russia’s second major blow as another major commander named Andrei Sukhovetsky had been killed by a Ukrainian sniper last week.
The general is said to have taken part in a number of military operations for Russia such as the second Chechen war, a military operation in Syria, as well as the annexation of Crimea. In all of those military campaigns, he is said to have won a number of medals for his bravery.
One executive direction hailing from the media group called Bellingcat revealed how the message of the general’s death was reportedly relayed by Ukraine to Russia’s army officials recently.
Since the Russian army officials were having trouble with communication, they were forced to make use of a local sim card so they could remain in contact and which also paved the way for Ukraine to intercept their phone call.
Other reports spoke about how the deceased general was the son of Russia’s Chief of General Staff for the armed forces and that’s why his death is being looked at as a major blow to the entire nation.
