A massive earthquake has struck the popular holiday destination, Fiji Islands.
As per the latest reports from the US Geological Survey, the earthquake came in measuring a magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter scale and ended up hitting the southern part of the islands.

It was shared at 8:03 local time at a significant depth of 174 kilometers as per the USGS. No tsunami alert was issued, nor is anyone expected at the tropical paradise due to the depth of the earthquake as per the US Tsunami Warning System.
Fiji is located in the South Pacific and has a collection of more than 300 separate islands. It’s best known for stunning landscapes and beaches, and usually attracts up to one million visitors, as seen in 2024.

Due to the high rates of convergence linked to Australia and the Pacific plates, the eastern part of the Australian plate is said to be one of the most seismically active parts of the world.
The USGS shared how the original earthquake arose at 8:03 am local time. The US Tsunami Warning System’s website also shared how the epicenter was currently located south of the Fiji Islands. The USG got zero reports of people having felt the earthquake during the time of this publication.
