Comedian Jay Leno has finally returned home from the hospital after suffering severe burns he sustained in a garage fire while he was working on his steam car.
On Monday, the Grossman Burn Center announced that the 72-year-old TV host has been discharged after staying at the facility for ten days, sharing a picture of Leno smiling with staff.
The photo also shows burn marks on his hand, neck, and chin.
The comedian was treated in an oxygen chamber after his 1907 steam engine car burst into flames, causing severe burns to his face and upper body.
Dr. Peter Grossman has previously warned that Leno may suffer from permanent scarring but also said that he is pleased with the progress after spending time in the oxygen chamber.
The doctor also said that the late-night host is “optimistic that he will make a full recovery.”
“Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received and is very appreciative of all the well wishes,” the burn center said in a statement.
“He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends, and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”
It was on November 12 when Leno was rushed to hospital following the blaze at his luxurious garage, where he keeps vintage vehicles.
A mechanic in his garage, George Swift, told ET that it was a steam car that caused severe burns to Leno’s face.
“It was a steam car. This steam was made by gas. It got sprayed, as a gas,” Swift said. “He called me, and he told me there was a fire and the fire department is coming.”
Leno was rushed to a local emergency room before he was transferred to the Grossman Burn Center.
