Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has reportedly been slammed for celebrating the Blue Origin Space trip, despite a tornado ripping through an Amazon Depot warehouse in Illinois.
At least six staff members were reported to have passed away in the tragic incident as the entire Amazon warehouse collapsed after a tornado ripped through Illinois on Friday night.
The Amazon founder was under fire for staying silent for so long despite such a large-scale tragedy taking place.
Many were quick to blast the CEO for being insensitive and inconsiderate and staying silent for such a long time on a topic that was trending throughout the country.
Instead, the CEO could be seen talking about the latest Blue Origin flight of his spacecraft instead, adding more fuel to the fire.
Finally, Bezos opted to break his silence amid the controversy, mentioning how the news coming in from Edwardsville in Illinois is beyond tragic. This was posted via a message on Twitter at about 9 pm ET.
“We are beyond heartbroken over the sudden loss of all of our teammates over there. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those involved and their families and loved ones,” it went on to mention.
In the same way, the Amazon CEO spoke about how the team is committed to supporting all of its staff members and will continue to remain by their side during this time of crisis.
“We extend our fullest gratitude to all of the wonderful first responders who have worked relentlessly at the site of the tragedy,” Bezos wrote.
A total of six people lost their lives in the tragedy as the Amazon warehouse collapsed after a tornado struck it, just across the Mississippi River from St Louis, as confirmed by Fire Chief James Whiteford.
