Jim Carrey is allegedly set to return as the grumpy Christmas character in The Grinch sequel 23 years after the original movie was released.
The 61-year-old Hollywood star first appeared as the green-furred Christmas-hating creature in How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000).
After more than two decades, it was finally confirmed that the movie’s sequel is on the horizon and that Jim Carrey has struck a deal with Universal Pictures that will see him reprise his role.
“Jim Carrey is returning to Universal Pictures for The Grinch 2, once again playing Dr. Seuss’s most famous and ill-tempered creation,” Giant Freaking Robot announced.
Carrey has yet to officially confirm the news.
This comes years after the actor suggested he isn’t a huge fan of sequels.
“I find sequels are a function of commerce for the most part. At least the two I’ve done, they were characters I enjoyed doing, but I did find myself almost parroting myself at that point,” he told CinemaBlend in 2017.
“When you put 10 years between you and the last time you did it, suddenly you’re going, ‘How did I do that again?’ So, you’re imitating your original inspiration.”
More recently, the actor made news by selling his Los Angeles “sanctuary” for a whopping $28.9 million after living in the mansion for almost three decades.
“For three decades it’s been a sanctuary for me but I don’t spend a lot of time there now and I want someone else to enjoy it like I have,” he said earlier this month.
