Jimmie Allen and wife Alexis Gale are getting a divorce while expecting their third child together.
The sad news of inevitable separation was announced by the 37-year-old country singer who took to Instagram to reveal that he and his wife made a unanimous decision to part ways after their chance meeting through a relative in 2019.
“After much thought and reflection in recent months, Lex & I have made the decision to separate. As we navigate this life change, we can also share that we will be welcoming another child together later this year,” the musician wrote in his statement.
Allen went on to say that the well-being of his children remains both his and Alexis’ priority despite their sudden breakup.
“Our number one priority is and always will be ensuring that our children are healthy, happy and loved, and we remain committed to co-parenting with love and respect for one another. In light of our growing family, we respectfully request privacy during this time,” he added.
Allen is currently a dad to son Aadyn, whom he shares with his former partner, and daughters Naomi Bettie, 3 years, and Zara James, 17 months, whom he shares with Gale.
The separation comes just months after Jimmie announced he was expecting his third child with Alexis in an interview with Cassie DiLaura of Entertainment Tonight.
“Going from two to three is a big jump. It’s cool, we love ‘em and we’re just definitely thankful for our kids,” he said. When asked about the prospect of having more children in the future, he added: “Oh, I am done.”
The country star later spoke out on the PEOPLE Every Day podcast to elaborate on his decision to stop reproducing.
“It was actually [Alexis’] idea. Because when it comes to babies, you know guys, we got the fun part … women gotta carry the baby. Give birth to the baby. And because she’s told [people] before she doesn’t mind giving birth, it’s the pregnancy part that’s normally gonna be hard on her,” he explained.
“But I’m cool if she’s done. My jerseys are retired, but then we did talk about maybe in a couple years having another one, but we’ll kind of just see. Whatever happens, happens.”
